kids and sports?

Ok parents tell me if I'm alone on this subject? What to do when your kids become of age to actively participate in sports, dance or whatever you as parents want to put them in? Of course I was soooo excited to get Braeden into Soccer this year, as soon as he turned the magic # 3! He out of any kid I thought would not only have a blast but I really thought he would be fairly good at it. Mainly because he is VERY active (those who really know him can contest to that!) and he really is pretty coordinated and for his age pretty athletic, or so I thought! WRONG! What the heck? The first practice were all excited, he showed a little interest and kicked the ball into the goal a bunch, but it was FREEZING that day at the kids lasted about 5 min. is all, cant blame em'. But the next practice it was pulling teeth to get him to participate whining, " I don't want to play soccer" aaaggghhh! So frustrating! I really wanted him to like it, and be good. Then Ross took him to his first game last week, and I stayed home with Reece, apparently it was a joke and a nightmare for Ross! Braeden threw a fit the whole time! The game was @ 9 am and they were home by 9:45! haha My dilemma was... do we quit soccer all together? I mean he is 3 its really not a big deal, if he doesn't want to play why not just be done with it, right? But I felt like that would be quiting even though he is 3 and I know its not like he is learning a lesson... but I decided to give it another go, and not pressure him. Go to his game, if he doesn't want to play well watch his team and support them! And maybe bribe him with some ice cream or something. So today was his next game, and he actually eventually went on the field ( with our help of course) and went after the ball a few times and even kicked it! Improvements by leaps and bounds from last week, so I think well stick it out! haha

In retrospect, Ross and I had a conversation not to long ago about sports and the kids. He really wants to get Braeden into football not now but way to early for my liking. I have a kinda underlying dislike for the sport and so I threw up a big stink about how I don't think he should play that young and he could get hurt and people here ( in Okie land) obsess WAY too much about the sport that it makes me even more dislike it all together! But I know realize after this whole soccer fiasco that at this age the kids don't really have any idea what they're going to like anyway. After all that I hope he ends up liking Soccer more than Football! haha Man at least when Reece is of age It will be just me obsessing over it and not fighting about it with Ross! :)

Angela, I just barely read your post! I know how you feel! We bought Cooper a $100 bike that he just loved and road around and around the store. He took it home, Drew took him on a 3 mile bike ride and he was in heaven! 2 days later he refused to go near it and hasnt touched it for a month! We cant figure him out, he was so good at it too. Oh well. they are still young right?

He's so big in his uniform! Who knows though? Josh was the same way. Loves the thought of it, but maybe he was just to young for an organized sport. He'd rather kick it around in the yard with Daddy. Now that he's 7 he's showing more interest in the organized sport thing.
